Job Description
About this role Our Underwriting team ensures we make the right decisions for our customers looking to access credit. We are looking for a pragmatist who bridges the gap between technical data work and business strategy, focussing on cash flow models used to estimate the value of new lending. You will use your Python skills to automate workflows, clean data, and build reusable tools that empower our analysts to make faster, better lending decisions.
What you’ll do
- Enable Analysts: Translate complex data and analytical requirements into clean, reusable Python code to help our analysts reach informed strategy decisions. - Automate & Optimise: Develop, build, and maintain functions and tools to improve the workflow for analysts, including improving existing processes and creating new solutions. - Bridge the Gap: You understand the why behind the code and are able to communicate complicated technical solutions to stakeholders. - Maintain Quality: Ensure the tools and datasets the business relies on are documented, reliable, and easy to understand. - Commercial Focus: Partner with stakeholders to trade off perfect engineering for high-value business delivery. What we’re looking for You are interested in understanding how credit underwriting models work and how they are used by the business. You are comfortable writing Python for data analysis and modelling (e.g. Pandas, Polars, LightGBM, Scikit learn); you know how to pull data from databases and manipulate it to get answers. You care about writing code that is readable, reusable and well documented. You’re familiar with the tools you’ll use to make development efficient e.g. git, unit testing frameworks or code linters.
