Job Description
The Opportunity At Hitachi Energy HVDC, our mission is to advance a sustainable energy future for all. Through innovative HVDC technologies, we enable large-scale integration of renewable energy, long-distance power transmission, and resilient power systems worldwide. We are now looking for a Senior Systems Engineer – HVDC to join our organization in Västerås or Ludvika. In this role, you will play an important part in delivering complex, large-scale HVDC projects that connect offshore wind, strengthen grids, and support the global transition to carbon‑neutral energy systems. You will work at the intersection of engineering execution, coordination, and continuous improvement—contributing to systems engineering excellence across major projects. With a practical and collaborative approach, you will support project teams in requirements management, verification, and risk awareness, while helping establish clear and consistent ways of working across programs and projects. This role offers the opportunity to influence both project outcomes and how systems engineering is practiced across the HVDC organization. How you’ll make an impact You help establish requirements management as a reliable and value‑creating way of working that supports quality, compliance, and customer confidence. You contribute to building confidence in systems engineering as a transparent and supportive framework for project execution. You support engineering and discipline teams through a balance of method development and hands‑on contribution, particularly when timelines are demanding. You introduce and continuously refine systems engineering and requirements management tools, data structures, and shared practices. You enable well‑informed decision‑making through relevant KPIs, dashboards, and clear visibility of progress and risks. You support verification planning, change management, and structured close‑out to ensure contractual and regulatory commitments are fulfilled. You explore and apply AI‑ and analytics‑supported methods to improve requirement quality, traceability, and reporting—aligned with safety, security, and compliance expectations. You contribute to a culture built on safety, quality, integrity, collaboration, and learning across HVDC programs and projects.
Your background Experience working with systems engineering and requirements management, preferably within large, technically complex infrastructure or energy‑related projects. Good understanding of systems engineering principles and frameworks such as ISO/IEC/IEEE 15288, the V‑model, or similar lifecycle approaches. Experience coordinating technical contract requirements, verification, and acceptance together with customers and external reviewers. Careful and structured approach to managing requirements, interfaces, baselines, and verification evidence. Ability to move comfortably between overall structure and practical execution, helping teams translate methods into everyday engineering work. Clear and thoughtful communication skills, with experience facilitating alignment across disciplines, cultures, and geographies—even when conditions change. Experience from HVDC, high‑voltage systems, or power grids is an advantage; experience from other complex technical systems is also valued. A reflective and accountable way of working, motivated by purpose, cooperation, and continuous improvement.
